Half way between Exmoor and Dartmoor - perfect for exploring Devon

Ash Mill Cabin is ideally situated for exploring the treasures of Devon -

it is approximately half way between Exmoor and Dartmoor, both of which can be reached within half an hour. The Town of Barnstaple is only 20 minutes away and Exeter City just under an hour.

The wonderful Tarka train line goes through Eggesford Station which is just 10 minutes away and will take you North to Barnstaple or South to Exeter and on to Exmouth. It is a beautiful scenic ride along the banks of The River Taw and well worth trying.

The nearest shops are 4 miles away in the quaint little town of Chulmleigh. There is a bakers (they really do bake on the premises), a deli, a Spar shop and a butchers. A post office and a couple of pubs.

Winkleigh is just down the road, with it's fabulous Friday fresh fish shop 'Plaice to place'. James the Fish also does a delivery round on Wednesday evenings and he'll accept emailed/phoned orders. Winkleigh is also where you will find ''The shop at the end of the world''. A cross between a grocers and a  general store, it caters for all your day to day needs. Just down the road is Winkleigh Cider where you can buy over the counter.

The lovely market town of Great Torrington is approx 12 miles away with a superb Panier Market, Dartington Glass and RHS Rosemoor.

Barnstaple has a wealth of shops and restuarants, a wonderful theatre and another superb panier market. Just outside Barnstaple is Broomhill Arts & Sculpture gardens with it's excellent restuarant - well worth a visit !

The beautiful beaches of North Devon are all close by  - Croyde Bay, Woolacombe, Saunton Sands, Westward Ho, Lynton & Lynmouth to name but a few.

There are some really good places to wine and dine nearby:

The Grove at Kings Nympton (approx 8 miles) is fabulous ! Our favourite place. Lots of low beams, open fire and fantastic award winning food. The owners Rob & Debbie will make you feel like old friends and nothing is too much trouble for them.

The Duke of York at Iddesleigh (War Horse Country). A wonderful 15th century country pub, voted in the top 10 country pubs in the UK good pub guide 2014. A great place for home cooked food and very good beer. Great atmosphere as well.

The Lymington Arms at Wembworthy (approx 5 miles) also serves very good food. An extensive menu with lots of lovely things to choose from (be warned the portions are huge).

Weirmarsh farm, just down the road at Umberleigh, is somewhere to go for that special occasion. Superb food.
